Dances
Name | Style | Level | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Claudia Chen, german soto, Michelle Huang, Daphne Lin | Contemp | Beginner |
one big, big mood |
Afura Taylor, Grace Bryant | modern | Intermediate |
Our piece wants to explore the connection between music and movement using modern (Horton/Taylor/Cunningham) technique. We want to piece to be soulful, and want to emphasize how the music influences the movement, rather than just focusing on movement and music in parallel. We also want to experiment with other dance techniques, particularly West African, to create an expressive and sincere piece. Also, we will be teaching the technique needed in the piece along with the choreography because we want our dancers to grow from participating in this piece. :) |
Mackenzie McDonald, Katrina Mikofalvy | Contemp | Advanced |
Haunting |
Nichole Clarke, Aya Suzuki | Fusion | Intermediate/Advanced |
“Abstractly… The piece is about conflict — at the beginning you’re starting to realize that what you’re in truly might not be great; it might be terrible love, but you’re staying in it because that’s what you know. However, as the piece changes, you start to realize that what you’re in is constraining, and something needs to change or it will only get worse. On Our Knees is the moment of realizing that this love might be holding you back and maybe, just maybe you should get out. Focus on body control and speed control; looking for int/adv dancers in either style” MUST ATTEND CONTEMP AUDITIONS |
Jami Rose | fusion | Advanced |
survival I want half boys, half girls, half hip hop, half contemp. The boys will mostly do hip hop and the girls will mostly do contemp but there will be several overlapping sections where we do either a combination of both or all hip hop or contemp together. There will be a good amount of partner work also. The song is a cover of Survivor by Destiny’s Child so it’s going to be very intense and angsty and hopefully badass. We are going to tell a story so get ready to #commit to the character and to some weird new movement. MUST ATTEND BOTH HIP HOP AND CONTEMP AUDITIONS |
Kristen Surrao | Tap | All |
Kind of mysterious/dramatic/epic vibe. There will probably be an easier section and a harder section and then some parts all together. Should be fun for all levels :) MUST ATTEND EITHER HIP HOP OR CONTEMP AUDITIONS |
Claudia Chen, Michelle Huang, Andrea Garmilla | Ballet | Intermediate/Advanced |
“pretty ballet a lot of extending and flowing through music, also emoting probably looking for dancers with previous experience in ballet” |
Srilaya Bhavaraju, Asavari Phanse | Bhangra | All |
Bhangra is a super fun, high energy folk dance originating from Northern India. This dance will be a fusion of high energy, happy bhangra, and some hip hop twists. Sections will include pure bhangra, a mix of bhangra and hip hop, and a bhangra partner section. MUST ATTEND HIP HOP AUDITIONS |
Joshua Scherrer, Eduardo Valle, Rex Shepard, Hugh Day-Williams, Taylor Herr | Hip Hop | Beginner |
The point of this Movementality set is to transition dancers who are beginners in to the intermediate level. In line with that each section will focus on specific skills and transitions will be guided by the audio from a comic youtube video about learning how to dance. |
"Rex Shepherd Brent Samuels Anthony Rosario" | Hip Hop | Beginner/Intermediate |
It’s gonna be RATCHET. We want super lit dancing to super lit/ratchet songs. Every song has a different feel but it’ll all be stuff to get the crowd going and/or that you could break out at a party at any time. Looking to help those beginning dancers who want to push themselves a little bit further towards int/adv. Working titles: “NDTDC” “Those Delta Boys” |
Matthew Tung | Hip Hop | All |
Hopefully this set will have a good mix of everything. Some smooth, some sharp. Some swag, a WHOLE LOT of stupid. The tentative title is Riff Roll (Hopefully you’ll see why ;D) Also, Bryan Chen will be around to help make sure I’m not too stupid (that’s like telling a horse to take care of dog…) to advise (not a co-choreographer). I want the dance to have a good mix difficulty so I’m interested in ppl who have danced before and are BEGINNERS,..so come thru!!!. |
Thad Daguilh | Hip-Hop | Intermediate |
This dance includes a lot of feelings. It’s about a couple having problems and being done with each other but not being able to let go. This piece is fairly challenging for intermediates mostly in terms of acting out and faces. It’s only one song because I really want to bring out its meaning and intensity. I have made choreo for the whole song already (lol finals week procrastination) and it will be a part for the girl, a part for the guy, a small bit couples, a part where only one group acts and vice versa, and an ending together…..or not. Can’t wait to show it to you guys :) |
Tony Cao | Hip hop | Intermediate/Advanced |
Fun, celebratory piece with lots of good vibes. There will be guy and girl parts, corresponding to when Amine or Kehlani are singing/rapping. Looking for people comfortable in their movement and able to learn very fast – will push retention and execution. No sadboi |
Lilly Clark | hip hop | Intermediate/Advanced |
Five very different songs so we can explore new styles together #growth, also currently brainstorming a storyline (TBD). |
Hugh Day-Williams, Camilo Espinosa, Narindra Peaks | hip hop | Advanced |
We are doing an advanced dance that will focus on execution and fast learning while exploring a diversity of styles not commonly seen in DT. We’re going for some hype trap, some house, some west coast grooves, and SAUZE. We are looking to push our dancers and put together a strong piece. |
