Ryan Welch, Brent Samuels | Hip Hop | Intermediate | Please attend the Hip Hop audition 25-30 dancers iSpy, Bonfire, Gummy, Colorz We have a good, even mix of aggressive and kicked back choreo. We want to promote individual growth as much as possible for all the dancers and teach elements that we both like to incorporate into our freestyles but haven’t seen in past DT pieces. |
Tomohiro Maeda | Breaking | All | Please attend the Hip Hop audition 15-20 dancers It’s Just Begun (Jimmy Castor Bunch), Yellow Sunshine (Yellow Sunshine), Love the Life You Live (Black Heat) Breaking is one of the origin of hip hop culture but not many people are exposed to it. Also, people often see bboys/girls as 'powermovers’ even though many breakers dance. I want to bring old school breaking to MIT’s hip hop culture and DT is the best place to start. |
Tony Cao | Hip Hop (Lyrical) | Intermediate/Advanced | Please attend the Hip Hop audition 20-25 dancers If I ain’t got you by Alicia keys “My main inspiration for the dance is loss, in whatever form that might be in your life. I started dancing after a breakup, so my main inspiration comes from the loss of a relationship, but any type of loss translates well. There will be feelz At the same time, this dance aims to push dancers out of the ““comfort zone”“ of DT, both in terms of types of movement I’ll explore (e.g. floorwork and jumps) and what dance consists of outside of learning choreography. I want to help people have a better idea of how to train and practice outside of just workshops and classes.” |
Bryan Chen | Hip Hop | Intermediate/Advanced | Please attend the Hip Hop audition 20-24 dancers Seventeen, Gospel, Glow Like Dat, and Dat Stick, all by Rich Chigg A Rich Chigga set. It’ll be lit, stupid, and fun (hopefully). Come be dumb with me |
Hugh Day-Williams, Narindra Peaks | Hip Hop | Advanced | Please attend the Hip Hop audition 25-30 dancers Blase- Ty Dolla Sign, Pusher Love Girl, Justin Timberlake, The Buzz- Hermitude, SuperSoka- Kid Ink, Fine China- Chris Brown, Am I Wrong, by Anderson Paak to Saggy Who-Has Advanced hip hop dance to push people in a lot of different variations of hip hop, with an increased focus on execution. We also envision some classic Sharptatas level ridiculousness. |
Daphne Lin, Wings Yeung | Contemporary | Beginner | Please attend the Contemporary audition 20-30 dancers Bubbly – Colbie Caillat; Lucky – Jason Mraz + Colbie Caillat A very cute beginner piece that hopefully brightens your day :) A great introduction to contemp for people who have never danced. In addition to teaching the dance, we will also teach you technique and performance, both of which are vital to any style of dance! Yay! |
Michelle Bai | Contemporary | Beginner/Intermediate | Please attend the Contemporary audition 20 dancers Fantasy by Alina Baraz and Galimatias and/or Show Me by Alina Baraz and Galimatias Overall dreamlike, ephemeral quality. Exploration of musical textures. Lower level introduction of technical skills. |
Maria & Annie | Contemporary | Intermediate/Advanced | Please attend the Contemporary audition 15 dancers spiegel im spiegel by arvo part #mannie returns from the depths of alumnihood to bring what we have learned from real life & the greater boston dance community back to dt! this dance is kinda about finding beauty in simple things and finding it in yourself. mostly trying to create something that feels good to dance & feels good to watch. attention to detail & musicality are key!!! |
Katrina & Mackenzie | Contemporary | Advanced | Please attend the Contemporary audition 16 dancers Bird Flu- M.I.A. Exploring the more… uhhhh…. unique types of contemp. Specifically, illness-related dance as a new trend! But actually. Very quirky, Mackenzie is part choreographing so expect some jazziness, Katrina is also part choreographing so expect some slow parts/turns (well as slow/turney as you can get to this “music”). We really want it to be fun and high energy but in a low (actually the most high key) key way, ya know? |
Camilo Espinosa, Aya Suzuki | Fusion (Hip Hop + Contemporary) | Intermediate | Please attend the Contemporary audition 25-30 dancers Cane Shuga – Glass Animals, Without the Lights – Elliot Moss, maybe some spoken word as a transition? “The three biggest focuses on my dance are musicality, dynamics, and performance. My vision is of two sets of people (think wearing two contrasting costumes) and a lot of the choreo will be interactive between the two sets. The story is first in Without the Lights you are lost and hurt but more than anything you feel apathetic and defeated. This could be because of something like depression, an abusive relationship, etc represented by one of the sets of people (if you watch the video of the song youll see). Then there might be a spoken word section as a transition in which you get the resolve and strength to overcome whatever is haunting you. And in cane shuga, the mood is more of a fight: you are angry and desperately want to rid yorself of whatever was causing the pain. This dance is meant to be a strong mold of what contempy moves and hip hop moves feel right to me in the songs, and should be challenging to anyone hopefully regardless of their level. |
Amy Fang | Musical Theater/Jazz | All | Please attend the Contemporary audition 20-30 dancers Barcelona by Ed Sheeran I want everything to be just plain and simple and happy. This is a dance that doesn’t have too much meaning behind it, but just something that everyone can get into and feel great. It’s a dance that exudes “come on and dance with me” (also a lyric) energy. Spontaneity, restlessness, butterflies, and just a teensy bit of romance. There will also be lots of partnering. |
Andrea Garmilla, Michelle Huang, Claudia Chen | Ballet | Intermediate/Advanced | Please attend the Contemporary audition 15 dancers Slowly (Classical Spanish Translation) by 2Cellos AMC Theaters presents: “Mashing The Most Streamed Song Ever With The Lovely Style of Ballet Is Our Number One Passion”. Although this is to a fun song, we are sticking to classical ballet steps. Previous ballet or technical experience is preferred, but this will not be on pointe. The dance, however, will be on point XD XP __ |
Patricia Lu | Tap | All | Please attend EITHER the Hip Hop OR the Contemporary audition and meet with Patricia immediately following 20-25 dancers Dancin Fool, a tap classic We’re gonna be tapping to one of the most widely used songs for tap but that’s because the song is actually so amazing and fun. The music makes me think of broadway esque tap, so expect that: some classic tap steps, jazz hands/other arms, facials, etc. I want it to be really high energy, crazy, and fun (and I want people who can really show that through their facial expressions). Format will probably be different sections for different levels (beg/int/adv) and maybe some things all together. We’re all fools, let’s dance :) |
